Aetna
Aetna has plans that do and do not cover acupuncture treatment. You can call your Insurance Company to find out whether your plan has this benefit. If it does not, some
Insurance companies may offer the option of adding this benefit at a low cost.
Aetna has many different plans for acupuncture treatment. The patient may be responsible for a co pay ranging from $5 to $30 or coinsurance which can range from 10 to 50%.
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal (R), Verizon (NYN) and Suffolk County (SUF) plans do cover acupuncture treatment for pain management at 100% after a co pay. Some plans may be limited to 10 acupuncture treatments per calendar year.
All other plans under Blue Cross Blue Shield will cover acupuncture treatment for conditions that they consider medically necessary. Some of these may include nausea due to pregnancy, nausea due to chemotherapy, postoperative dental pain and osteoarthritis.
Cigna
Cigna has plans that do and do not cover acupuncture treatment. You can call your Insurance Company to find out whether your plan has this benefit. If it does not, some
Insurance companies may offer the option of adding this benefit at a low cost.

The Empire Plan – (New York State Health Insurance Plan “NYSHIP”)
The Empire Plan do covers acupuncture treatment at 100% after a $12 to $18 co pay.
GHI
GHI does not cover acupuncture treatment but the insurance companies will cover the initial consultation .
HIP
HIP does not cover acupuncture treatment but the insurance companies will cover the initial consultation.
MagnaCare
Magnacare has plans that do and do not cover acupuncture treatment. You can call your Insurance Company to find out whether your plan has this benefit. If it does not, some
Insurance companies may offer the option of adding this benefit at a low cost. Magnacare has many different plans for acupuncture treatment. The patient may be responsible for a co pay ranging from $10 to $35.
Medicare
Medicare does not cover acupuncture treatment but the insurance companies will cover the initial consultation
Medicare Supplement Plans (AARP)
All Medicare supplement plans follow Medicare guidelines. Therefore, these plans do not cover acupuncture treatment.
Oxford
Oxford does not cover acupuncture treatment but the insurance companies will cover the initial consultation.
